If you take care of your character, your reputation will take care of itself.

In order to be a leader, a man must have followers. And to have followers, a man must have their confidence. Hence they supreme quality for a leader is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office. If a man’s associates find him guilty of phoniness, if they find that he lacks of forthright integrity, he will fail. His teachings and actions must square with each other. The first great need, therefore, is integrity and high purpose.

Ask a bunch of experts what it takes to be a leader, and you’ll hear a lot of answers. “Vision,” one will say. “Knowledge,” another will tell you. “Communication, problem solving, people skills.” All good answers. Look at a great leader, and you will find all of those qualities. But no matter how many positive qualities a leader possesses, he cannot lead for long if he lacks character. Without character, even the most talented leader’s contribution to his followers will be far short-reaching, shallower than its potential, and easily forgotten.

INTEGRITY will take a leader farther than any other single quality:

Integrity is more than our talk
Integrity brings security
Integrity’s absence leads to ruin

If you would travel far and do much as a leader, never compromise your integrity.
